It’s that time of year again, folks! Time for us to take a look at the upcoming animated films set to be released in 2026.
Keep in mind that I’ll only be mentioning theatrical and streaming films with set (US) release dates and that I won’t be mentioning any live-action/animated hybrid films.

1) GOAT
[February 13, 2026]
Sony Animation’s film of the year tells us the story of a goat wanting to be the “greatest of all time” in roarball, a sport similar to basketball.
W/the voices of Caleb McLaughlin, Gabrielle Union, Stephen Curry, Jenifer Lewis, Jennifer Hudson, etc.

2) HOPPERS
[March 6, 2026]
Pixar’s first of two films of the year tells the “Not Avatar“-like story of a girl whose mind is transferred into that of a robotic beaver to speak to animals whom she loves.
W/the voices of Piper Curda, Jon Hamm, Meryl Streep, Dave Franco, Kathy Najimy, etc.

3) THE POUT-POUT FISH
[March 20, 2026]
Based on the children’s book of the same name by Deborah Diesen, a gloomy fish learns to be cheerful.

4) THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE
[April 3, 2026]
Illumination Entertainment’s first film of the year serves as a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie featuring the Nintendo characters we know and love.
W/the voices of Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Brie Larson, etc.

5) ANIMAL FARM
[May 1, 2026]
The LONG-AWAITED third adaptation of George Orwell’s novella tells the story of a farm being taken over by the animals who live there, but it’s not all that different as to when the humans were in charge.

6) TOY STORY 5

Pixar’s second film of the year reunites us with the toys we know and love who now have competition with digital devices.

The third Paw Patrol film releases in 2026.

Dreamworks Animation’s film of the year doesn’t currently have a plot announced.

10) THE LEGEND OF AANG: THE LAST AIRBENDER
[October 9, 2026]
A continuation of the shows, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, this film will debut on Paramount+.

The Disney Canon film of the year centers around witches.

The third film based on the Angry Birds video game series releases next year.

My top three most anticipated animated films of 2026 are Toy Story 5, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Animal Farm.

I am not exactly full of hope I will like the animated films this year. Sure all animated films are equal, but some are more equal than others (watches dog wag tail as if Napoleon is a man).
