So,that secret project from Lucasfilm that nobody knew about until like a month ago, Strange Magic, to nobody’s surprise, flopped at the weekend box office. The film opened up in 7th place grossing a mere $5.5 million, the WORST opening for an animated film that was shown in over 3000 locations! It’s a good thing Disney decided to release this through their Touchstone Pictures division.
Have you seen it? What did you think? If you haven’t seen it, will you?
I saw it yesterday, I was thinking of writing it up on my blog today. Beautiful, nice music, but desperately predictable and poorly imitated the story aspects that made Frozen popular.
Interesting; I’d love to read your review on it if you make it!
And glad to hear from you; it’s been a while 😛 !
I was actually planning on seeing it today but I don’t know. The reviews are so bad.
Yeah, I wouldn’t pay for it if I were you.
Geez, I hadn’t even heard about this movie before today. Now I think I’ll skip it.
Yeah, the marketing for this film was horrible!
Shit. This is a DISNEY film?………. Wow. I will watch a video version to review it in a few weeks. Still not over that this is a Disney film.
It’s merely distributed by them.
It was basically part of the Star Wars deal and I think a way to keep Lucas busy so they could make the film they wanted.
Here’s my review of Strange Magic https://54disneyreviews.wordpress.com/2015/01/27/strange-magic-review/
I had not heard about this movie. I probably wouldn’t have seen it anyway, but it is Strange that Disney released a movie that basically had no promotion at all.
Well, I think they knew it was going to be a flop, so that’s why they released it through their Touchstone division so as not to have the Disney name on it. It kind of came with the whole Lucasfilm purchase.
That’s true. I suppose if they had Disney above the title, it may have been a different story. They’ll make up for it with the Star Wars films (hopefully).
