‘Peter Rabbit’ Teaser Trailer Debuts!

The teaser trailer for Sony Animation’s upcoming adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit stories has debuted.

While I never read the Peter Rabbit stories, I have a feeling that the stories are much more timeless than this teaser trailer seems to show. I really wish they had made this a fully animated film; this live-action/animated hybrid doesn’t seem to work especially with the whole “party theme”. If it turns out to be like Paddington (horrible teaser, but film was well-made), I’ll be happy, but until then, this is all we have to go on.

Peter Rabbit stars Domhnall Gleason, Sam Neill, and Rose Byrne, along with the voice talents of James Corden, Margot Robbie, Daisy Ridley, and Elizabeth Debicki. The film is being directed by Will Gluck and set to hit theaters on February 9, 2018.

What do you think of this trailer? Does it turn you off from seeing the film?

  1. Omg, that scene with the man and the pig screaming is absolutely hilarious! But, overall, I do not even know what to think. The trailer does put me off a bit. We have seen a rabbit and a fox relationship in Zootopia, and some of the jokes they now use in the majority of “adult” comedy films like that are not that funny.

    1. It just feels like an ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’-type movie.

I’m hoping it’ll be like ‘Paddington’. The first trailer of ‘Paddington’ that was released involved him brushing his teeth and in the bathroom with some disgusting humor that seemed lowbrow. But the actual movie was well-made, well-written, and had a timeless charm. So I’m hoping it’s the same with this movie and the trailer.

  2. I’ll wait until this one comes out on DVD to pass my judgment, but if you’re not all that familiar with Potter’s stories, I’d suggest you look at the 1990’s animated series, THE WORLD OF PETER RABBIT AND FRIENDS. (I used to own the first episode, “The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny,” on VHS when I was a kid, and watched it quite frequently.)

In fact, if you’re interested, here’s the link to a playlist of the full series, with the episodes arranged in the order of airing: (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtbPqxr-6l37J_Z3_vLFHGe9MY6hO3i-n)

  3. Yes, I was incredibly disappointed with this trailer. I had been expecting something gentle and sweet (kind of like “The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh”) – something appropriate for a preschooler. This looks like something that’s trying (and failing) to be “modern, edgy, funny”, and landing on “ugh”. I had this movie down as one i might take my preschooler to and now it’s in the “probably won’t see it, ever” category.

    1. Yeah, that’s what the trailer seems to be showing. I’m hoping for the best and assuming it’s like the Paddington trailer. The first Paddington trailer made the film seem to be just not funny or trying too hard, but the film ended up being nothing like the trailer.
