92nd Academy Awards Nominations Announced!

The 92nd Academy Award nominations have been announced and I will release my predictions sometime in the upcoming weeks. Until then, here are the animation-related nominees:

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM:
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
I Lost My Body
Klaus
Missing Link
Toy Story 4

BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM:
Dcera (Daughter)
Hair Love
Kitbull
Memorable
Sister

Also both Toy Story 4 and Frozen II have been nominated for Best Original Song for I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away and Into the Unknown, respectively.

The biggest thing that stands out from these nominees is the fact that Frozen II wasn’t nominated for Best Animated Feature and honestly, while I’m surprised by that, I’m also happy that it wasn’t.

What do you think of the nominees? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Very surprised not to see “Frozen II” on the list. Not because I think it was better than the original, per se, but because of the phenom that franchise has been for the past 5 years.

  2. For 2019,
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. 5-stars. Crisp and beautiful animation, with a long and engaging storyline. Great score.
Klaus: it didn’t “grab” me, particularly as a Christmas film
Toy Story 4: an unnecessary sequel, but a decent movie; solid score.
    Missing Link: haven’t seen
I Lost My Body: hadn’t even heard of this one, but I’ll go look for it now
Frozen II: better than Klaus and TS4, good score that tries too hard

  3. Not surprised…I knew that either Toy Story 4 or Frozen II would made the list, not both, and considering the growing resentment against Frozen, I was pretty sure it wold be the former.

Curious which will win…I think it is between HTTYD, Klaus and, considering the Globes, Missing Link. If HTTYD hadn’t been released that early in the year I would bet on it, but still, since the series got passed over twice some voters might think it is time to honour it. I had it as possible winner the moment it got good reviews. But Klaus being more current and exposed might give it the edge.

  4. How To Train Your Dragon 3 shouldn’t have seen the light of day, it was that insulting. To see it get a nomination over something like Abominable or Frozen II is a joke. I think the Academy didn’t want Frozen to win so that the other films have a stronger shot but oh well.

  5. I’m surprised Frozen 2 isn’t on the list. I don’t think it should win, but I thought it was good enough to at least get nominated. I think I liked it better than Toy Story 4.
