My Top 13 Favorite Animated Disney (Canon) Films (2024 Edition)!

The first Top 13 list I did for this blog was actually about my favorite animated Disney Canon films. It was one of my most popular posts, if not my most popular post on this blog! However, that was 11 years ago and with all the films added to the Canon since then, I feel it’s time for a new list!

So sit back and relax for my updated Top 13 Favorite Animated Disney (Canon) Films list!

#13: THE ARISTOCATS (1970)

I never really realized how much I enjoyed this film before as evident by the fact that it didn’t even feature in my previous top 13 list! I personally feel that it’s a fun little adventure with not much plot, but the lovable characters, great lines, and catchy songs make up for that plenty!

#12: MEET THE ROBINSONS (2007)

This rose one place from my previous top 13 list which just proves how good this film is with every viewing! I find it charming and emotional with likeable characters and a really great message!

I even enjoy the Bowler Hat Guy as a villain (even though he is a goof); I feel he gets a bit too much flack by being considered one of the worst Disney villains.

The CG animation is a remarkable step up from Chicken Little. I feel the T-Rex scene needed a rewrite in order for this film to be a truly perfect movie though.

#11: 101 DALMATIANS (1961)

This dropped 8 places from my previous top 13 list, but it’s still a film I adore immensely! I love the animation style, characters, story, and especially Cruella De Vil! I feel some scenes (such as when the dalmatians take refuge in the barn with the cows) could have tightened up their pacing, but that’s probably my biggest criticism of the film.

#10: ALICE IN WONDERLAND (1951)

This one also dropped 8 places from my previous top 13 list, but I still love it! It’s filled with such delightful nonsense, colors, voice acting, characters, etc. I absolutely love Wonderland and witnessing Alice getting more and more frustrated as she deals with its inhabitants!

#9: ROBIN HOOD (1973)

This one dropped 5 places from my previous top 13 list, but has always been a favorite of mine ever since childhood! I love the characters and lines in the film so much so that I think this is the most quotable Disney film!

The Phony King of England is one of my favorite Disney songs of all time and the jailbreak scene is one of my favorite Disney scenes of all time! It’s just a pleasure overall and would be higher up if not for the slower moments.

#8: SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS (1937)

This is another film that I never realized how much I loved, hence why it didn’t make my previous top 13 list. But it makes sense that this would be so beloved to me! I mean, there literally wouldn’t be a Disney Canon without this one!

This started it all and is an overall pleasant, emotional, beautiful, and even action-packed film with great characters. I love Snow White and she’s nothing like the haters say. I was even surprised by how many lines in the film rhymed! That plus the great songs equals a lyrical delight!

#7: PINOCCHIO (1940)

This one actually rose 5 places from my previous top 13 list which is high praise indeed! The animation in this is simply spectacular from the puppets to the breaking glass to the donkey transformations to the underwater scenes, etc. I love the villainous characters and especially love Jiminy Cricket!

#6: THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (1996)

Interestingly enough, this one stayed in the exact same place as it was in my previous top 13 list, lol! The animation is breathtakingly gorgeous as are the amazing Alan Menken/Stephen Schwartz songs! And Frollo as a villain? Simply superb! My only criticism is that I felt more needed to happen in this film plotwise. But it’s a nitpick.

#5: ALADDIN (1992)

This one rose 5 places from my previous top 13 list. What’s not to love about it? It’s an enjoyable, fun-filled romantic adventure. I love the characters, songs, animation, and romance.

But, there are so many unanswered questions in this film: What is the blue diamond for besides a MacGuffin? Why didn’t Jafar use the staff to hypnotize the Sultan into making him Sultan? Or hypnotize Jasmine to fall in love with him? Does it only work on Sultan? Why didn’t Iago use his impressions more?

#4: THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE (1986)

This one rose 5 places from my previous top 13 list. It’s an overall fun adventure that gives you what you would expect from a mouse-themed Sherlock Holmes. The characters and voice acting are great all around!

#3: THE LION KING (1994)

This one rose 4 places from my previous top 13 list. It’s a classic and amazing in every way! It has great animation, story, characters, voices, songs, romance, love it! I honestly don’t understand people who say that this film is overrated!

#2: TREASURE PLANET (2002)

This is another film that I didn’t realize how much I loved hence why it didn’t make my previous top 13 list! It’s an absolutely epic adaptation of Treasure Island filled with amazing animation, character designs, and locations!

B.E.N. is my least favorite character in this, but he’s not as annoying as I remember him being. I love the father-son relationship between Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver as well!

AND MY #1 FAVORITE ANIMATED DISNEY (CANON) FILM IS:

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1991)

Was anyone surprised that this remained in the same place that it was in my previous top 13 list? What can I say about this film that hasn’t been said? It has amazing animation, an amazing story, amazing romance, amazing characters, amazing songs, amazing voice cast, etc. It’s just amazing! I also don’t understand people who find this one to be overrated!

And that’s my list! Let me know what your favorite Disney Canon films are in the comments below!

  1. Not a single new movie made the list. In fact the newest movie is from 07 and only 2 movies from this millennia. Jungle Book, Sword in the stone, and Tarzan are out. They are replaced by Aristocats, the 8th(ish) animated film made, and Treasure Planet.

My top 13 last has stayed the same since I last did it

    1) Wreck-It-Ralph
    2) Pinocchio
    3) Many adventures of Winnie the Pooh
    4) Emperor’s New Groove
    5) Your top pick
    6) Lilo and Stitch
    7) Dumbo
    8) Mulan
    9) Big Hero 6
    10) Frozen
    11) Lion King
    12) 101 Dalmatians
    13) The Rescuers

  2. Interesting choices! I may not personally see the appeal of Alice, Robin or Robinsons, but much love for the high placements of Hunchback, Snow White and especially Treasure Planet! Nice to see those getting more appreciation 🙂 Also a bold move putting The Aristocats so high (but I get it, it does have a great vibe to it)
