Upcoming Animated Films in 2025

It’s that time of year again, folks! Time for us to take a look at the upcoming animated films set to be released in 2025.

Keep in mind that I’ll only be mentioning theatrical and streaming films with set (US) release dates and that I won’t be mentioning any live-action/animated hybrid films.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy this list with me!

1) WALLACE & GROMIT: VENGEANCE MOST FOWL
[January 3, 2025]

While originally released in 2024 in the UK, Aardman Animations’ happily-awaited Wallace & Gromit sequel reintroduces us to the duo we love so much as well as to the villainous Feathers McGraw. It will be available on Netflix at the beginning of 2025 for international viewing.

W/the voices of Ben Whitehead, Peter Kay, Reece Shearsmith, etc.
Directed by Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham

2) DOG MAN
[January 31, 2025]

DreamWorks Animation’s first of two films of the year (not counting the How to Train Your Dragon remake and Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie) serves as a spin-off of Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. It tells the story of Dog Man, a crimefighter born out of a surgery between a cop and his dog after an injury.

W/the voices of Peter Hastings, Pete Davidson, Lil Rel Howery, Isla Fisher, Ricky Gervais, etc.
Directed by Peter Hastings

3) THE WITCHER: SIRENS OF THE DEEP
[February 11, 2025]

Debuting on Netflix, this animated film takes place in the universe of The Witcher, a universe wherein monster hunters kill dangerous creatures.

W/the voices of Doug Cockle, Joey Batey, Anya Chalotra, etc.
Directed by Kang Hei Chul

4) THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP: A LOONEY TUNES MOVIE
[February 28, 2025]

Warner Bros. Animation’s film of the year brings the Looney Tunes to the big screen for the first time ever (not counting animated/live-action hybrid films or compilation films)! It’s very strange that it took this long to happen! And it’s even stranger that Bugs Bunny isn’t the star of this!

W/the voices of Eric Bauza, Candi Milo, Peter MacNicol, Wayne Knight, etc.
Directed by Pete Browngardt

5) THE KING OF KINGS
[April 11, 2025]

Mofac Animation brings us the first of three Biblically-centered animated feature films of the year! (Not to mention that this one seems to be the most star-studded!) Released by Angel Studios, the film is loosely based on Charles Dickens’ posthumous The Life of Our Lord and features Charles Dickens narrating the story of Jesus Christ (from a Christian perspective).

W/the voices of Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Oscar Isaac, Forest Whitaker, Pierce Brosnan, Mark Hamill, Ben Kingsley, etc.
Directed by Seong-ho Jang

6) SNEAKS
[April 18, 2025]

If you wanted an animated film about anthropomorphic shoes, then this is the one for you! When a designer sneaker gets lost in NYC, he must dig deep in his sole (I see what they did there) to rescue his sister and return home to his owner (I pretty much plagiarized this plot summary from IMDB).

W/the voices of Anthony Mackie, Martin Lawrence, Laurence Fishburne, Chloe Bailey, Mustard, etc.
Directed by Rob Edwards

7) ELIO
[June 13, 2025]

Pixar’s film of the year tells the story of a boy who’s been abducted by aliens as they assume him to be Earth’s leader.

W/the voices of Yonas Kibreab, Jameela Jamil, Brad Garrett, Zoe Saldaña, Shirley Henderson, etc.
Directed by Domee Shi, Madeline Sharafian, and Adrian Molina

8) THE SMURFS MOVIE
[July 18, 2025]

In one of the most confusing twists ever, we get another reboot of The Smurfs (another fully animated one mind-you), however, this time it’s being produced by Paramount Animation rather than Sony Animation!

W/the voices of Rihanna, Nick Offerman, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Kurt Russell, John Goodman, etc.
Directed by Chris Miller

9) THE BAD GUYS 2
[August 1, 2025]

DreamWorks Animation’s second film of the year reunites us with the bad guys gone good from the first film. But like all bad guys turned good, they’re brought back to the bad side for one last job when propositioned by a gang known as the Bad Girls.

W/the voices of Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, Awkwafina, Danielle Brooks, Natasha Lyonne, Maria Bakalova, Zazie Beetz, Richard Ayoade, Lilly Singh, etc.
Directed by Pierre Perifel

10) LIGHT OF THE WORLD
[September 5, 2025]

We get to our second Biblically-centered animated film of the year and our second one to be about the life of Jesus Christ (from a Christian perspective). This one seems to have the best animation though and was worked on for many years by Disney animator, Tom Bancroft.

W/the voices of David Kaye, Adam Kozlick, etc.
Directed by Tom Bancroft and John J. Schafer

11) DAVID
[November 21, 2025]

We get to our third Biblically-centered animated film of the year with this one focused on the prophet and King David. This will be released by Angel Studios.

No voice cast yet.
Directed by Phil Cunningham and Brent Dawes

12) ZOOTOPIA 2
[November 26, 2025]

We get the Disney Canon film of the year where we’re reunited with animal cops, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, as they solve a case involving a reptile.

W/the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimster, Shakira, etc.
Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard

13) THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS
[December 19, 2025]

We also get the fourth theatrically-released animated film in the SpongeBob SquarePants universe wherein SpongeBob faces off against the Flying Dutchman.

W/the voices of Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence, Mark Hamill, etc.
Directed by Derek Drymon

14) A HUNDRED ACRE CHRISTMAS
[December 25, 2025]

When Winnie-the-Pooh entered the public domain, it wasn’t long before Amazon said they wanted to make their own Winnie-the-Pooh media. This Christmas tale will probably be our first introduction to their Winnie-the-Pooh.

No voice cast yet.
No director yet.

My top three most anticipated animated films of 2025 are The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, and Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. (What’s with all the subtitles??)

Let me know what yours are in the comments below!

  1. Nice list, I’ve added a few to keep an eye out for once they get UK release dates!

I’m not sure if they have US release dates yet, but my two most anticipated for 2025 are Julián (the next Cartoon Saloon effort, due out sometime next year) and Wildwood (the next Laika film, also due next year). I’m also looking forward to Gints Zilbalodis’ Flow, which I think we’re getting around March.

I’m hoping Makoto Shinkai might announce a new film soon, too, he’s about due for one! And who knows, perhaps if we’re lucky, we might even get word of a new Ghibli film in the works… a boy can dream!
