86th Academy Awards Nominations Announced!

oscars

Well, the day we (or at least I) have been waiting for has finally arrived: THE OSCARS NOMINATIONS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED!!!

You can find a full list of them here: http://oscar.go.com/nominees

But I’m only going to list the animated nominations here:

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE:

THE CROODS

DESPICABLE ME 2

ERNEST & CELESTINE

FROZEN

THE WIND RISES

BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM:

FERAL

GET A HORSE!

MR. HUBLOT

POSSESSIONS

ROOM ON THE BROOM

All I can say is that WHY WASN’T “MONSTERS UNIVERSITY” NOMINATED FOR BEST ANIMATED FEATURE?! Granted, it wasn’t epic, but no other animated film this year was at the level of “Frozen” and “Monsters University” was sooo much better than “Despicable Me 2”! Oh well!

I can’t comment on the animated short films as I haven’t seen any yet.

The only other problem I have with this year’s nominations is that “Saving Mr. Banks” only got ONE nomination (Best Original Score)! I’m not saying that it should have got a PLETHORA of nominations, but it DEFINITELY should’ve been nominated for Best Actress (Emma Thompson). Oh well!

Before the Academy Awards occur, I’ll post my predictions here for all the categories. In the meantime, how do you feel about the nominations? The animated ones in particular?

  1. Hm, most of the Oscar nominations are for either Captain Phillips, 12 Years A Slave, Gravity, or The Wolf Of Wall Street. Can’t say that I’m surprised about that.

My bet for Best Animated Feature is Frozen. Good Disney movies tend to win the Oscars over. And they don’t have Pixar as competition this year. The Oscars have surprised me before, though, so it’s tough to say.

  2. WHY isn’t Monsters University nominated? Does this have to do with Brave winnig last year? I understand why Croods would be nominated but DM2? That movie is extremely predictable and lacking in the character development. Though I do think Frozen is overrated, it SHOULD win. I should probably make an article about the Oscars soon (if I am not lazy enough).

  3. I agree with “Saving Mr. Banks”, Emma Thompson should have been nominated. She did such a great job at being a pest! Where can we watch the nominated short films? I never know where to find them. Thanks!
