We continue on our journey through the Disney Canon and arrive at the 56th entry, Moana. For an overall plot of the film as well as my thoughts on it, click here. Otherwise, continue reading to know more about the forgotten/minor character that I selected for this film!
Sometime during the film, Maui and Moana, head to the Realm of Monsters to retrieve Maui’s magical hook. To enter the Realm, you have to jump down a seemingly bottomless pit to the ocean below. Maui jumps in first with Moana following close behind him. While Maui lands pretty safely, Moana hits a few bumps along the way. At the end of it all, she finds herself caught in the tongue of a fish creature and about to be devoured!

Fortunately, a carnivorous plant-like creature eats the fish creature that has Moana! This results in Moana being freed! And it’s this plant-like creature that I wanna pay tribute to today. Just imagine, had the fish creature eaten Moana, the film would have pretty much been over! Our protagonist princess would have been dead and unable to convince Maui to restore the heart of Te Fiti. Maui would have just gotten his magical hook and gone on his merry way! Had the heart not been restored, Moana’s home island of Motunui, would have continued to have lack of fish and rotted coconuts. And knowing Moana’s father, the Chief, he would not have relocated his people to another island for fear of crossing the ocean. Hence, his people would have died due to starvation!

So, if it weren’t for the carnivorous plant-like creature merely seeking a bite to eat, this movie would have turned out very differently! In a way, it’s the most important character of the film! Let’s give it up for the carnivorous plant-like creature!

On a personal note, I would have chosen (and I was half-expecting you to choose) the villager who first commented on Heihei’s stupidity- you know, the one from whom Moana defended said rooster.
That is a good choice too! But, when I saw this movie for the first time and saw this creature, I said to myself, I GOTTA talk about this one, lol!
