Well, it’s that time again: OSCARS TIME!!!! The nominations have been announced and can all be found here. But, I’ll just list the animated films nominations below:
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM:
– Big Hero 6
– The Boxtrolls
– How to Train Your Dragon 2
– Song of the Sea
– The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM:
– The Bigger Picture
– The Dam Keeper
– Feast
– Me and My Moulton
– A Single Life
Let me just say that I (along with many other people) am SHOCKED that The LEGO Movie wasn’t nominated for Best Animated Feature Film! What the heck?!!!!
I’m also surprised that Glen Keane’s Duet wasn’t nominated for Best Animated Short Film!
What do you all think of these nominations? What do you think about the other categories? Let me know what you predict will win in the comments below! I’ll post my Oscars predictions in a few weeks.
To be honest, I am a bit surprised (though should not be) surprised that The Lego Movie was not nominated, but the Academy Awards always goes for the “more sophisticated” films, so I should not be shocked by this.
No, it’s totally a shocking move.
Yeah, exactly my sentinment too, surprised but not really shocked. I am kind of glad, to be honest. I feared that the Lego movie might win because of its popularity, and I don’t think that it would have been the right pick.
What animated film would you say was the best of the year?
Can’t judge that without having seen Big Hero 6 (soon…hopefully this week) and Song of the Sea. I can only go by a combination of reviews and gut feeling.
I was really surprised by the snub of Lego Movie. It’s hard to say on Song of the Sea since nobody has seen it yet unless you live in LA or NYC. The other movies are tough to argue with but if it were me I would pick Lego over Boxtrolls even though I loved Boxtrolls. I just feel like I’ve seen lots of movies that looked and were similar to Boxtrolls where the Lego was new, creative, different and it just made me laugh more than any other movie in 2014. Stuffy old academy! I hope it wins best song just to show them
I’m surprised but not shocked at all. I guess the academy award wanted a stop motion movie in there (hence the Boxtrolls), and both strong traditional animated movie, leaving two spots for CGI movies. And they apparently felt that of the three contenders, the Lego movie was the weakest one. Can’t really disagree with the notion.
The LEGO Movie is not on the list? What is this?!?!
On a happier note, I’m glad to see How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Song of the Sea nominated. I don’t know how I feel about Big Hero 6 being on the list. It doesn’t seem Oscar worthy, but that’s really just me.
Yeah, ‘The LEGO Movie’ is a huge shocker!!!
I was personally happy Lego Movie didn’t get nominated. I didn’t like that movie at all, which is saying something, because I can almost always find something to like about most movies. I didn’t get the hype or why it was so popular. I just thought it wasn’t that good. Compared to the others that were nominated (I haven’t seen Song of the Sea, but all the others) it was definitely lacking. I’m rooting for HTTYD2, although Princess Kaguya was unbelievable and Big Hero 6 was enjoyable.
Interesting viewpoint!
I don’t get much of a chance to watch movies lately, so I haven’t seen any of these. I am surprised about The Lego Movie. But then again, I don’t take the Oscars too seriously anymore. It’s more about who you know than it is for quality.
I just like the Oscars as a fun little game.
