Well, we’ve left the glorious age of the Disney Renaissance

It's ok! You may cry!
It’s ok! You may cry!

and are now in what I like to call, “The…Post-Disney Renaissance/Modern Age”. During this era, the animated Disney features would stop being nigh unanimous critical and commercial hits and would be like they were in the ’70s-’80s, i.e. some would be hits and others wouldn’t.

And today’s film not only showcases its post-Disney Renaissance quality, but also brings us back to the format of package films! Continue reading “Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #38: The Owner of the Toys”

Sadly, we arrive at the end of the Disney Renaissance!

It's ok! You may cry!
It’s ok! You may cry!

Well, all good things must come to an end eventually! And this particular era eventually ended in 1999 with Disney’s 37th animated feature, “Tarzan”. Warning: there are some spoilers in this post, so beware if you haven’t seen the movie! Continue reading “Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #37: The Ship Captain”

The era is the Disney Renaissance. The year is 1998. The film is “Mulan”.

Yeah, that’s pretty much the only introduction I have! Continue reading “Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #36: Little Brother”

Talk about patterns! First, we had a pattern of forgotten/minor characters of royalty; now there seems to be a pattern of forgotten/minor donkey characters! (See my posts on “Pinocchio” and “The Three Caballeros”)!

Oh well, what are you gonna do?

Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #34: The Boatman

As you all know, “Beauty and the Beast”, is my favorite Disney film; hence it’s not a surprise that I also love “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” which was made by much of the same crew members as the former film.

Released in 1996, Disney’s 34th animated feature is known as one of the darkest Disney Canon films (along with “The Black Cauldron”) as well as the most adult Disney Canon film! This film deals with topics such as racism, prejudice, religion, hell, and even lust! I’m still surprised this film passed with a “G” rating! Nevertheless, it’s one of my favorite Disney films! Believe it or not, nobody really wanted to make “The Lion King”!

joking

It’s true, the vast majority of people, including Jeffrey Katzenberg himself didn’t think that anyone would actually like or want to see “The Lion King”!

"MUAHAHAHAAAA!"
“MUAHAHAHAAAA!”

Preposterous, I know! Instead, they all wanted to get to work on what would be Disney’s 33rd animated feature, “Pocahontas”! Continue reading “Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #33: Namontac”

Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #32: The Gopher

We are now at the epitome of the Disney Renaissance! This is the film that became a nigh unanimous hit by critics and audiences alike! This is the movie that, to this day, is the highest-grossing traditional animated film EVER with a total gross of almost a billion dollars! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we are talking about…

Wait, what?! That’s not right!

Ah, much better!

Released in 1994, Disney’s 32nd animated feature has been seen by EVERYONE in the world! And I mean, EVERYONE! And EVERYONE loves the story of a young cub who’s framed for his father’s murder and has to battle his evil uncle in the end! Who wouldn’t love a film like that? Continue reading “Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #32: The Gopher”

Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #31: Prince Achmed

Wow, what’s with all these royal figures being forgotten/minor in Disney films?! First, we had Queen Leah, then Princess Eilonwy, then the Princess of Glowerhaven, and now this one!

It’s true when they say that you can’t have it all!

Released in 1992, “Aladdin” continued the trend of the animated films of the Disney Renaissance, i.e. making a bunch of money and getting  a bunch of positive reviews from critics and audiences alike! Continue reading “Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #31: Prince Achmed”

Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #30: The Old Beggar Woman/The Beautiful Enchantress

Wow, I can’t believe that I’ve done 30 of these already!

I should throw myself a party! How pathetic would that be?
I should throw myself a party! How pathetic would that be?

We are still in the Disney Renaissance and are taking a look at arguably, the best film in the Disney Renaissance. This film was a massive hit, both critically and commercially! This film received a standing ovation at the New York Film Festival! This film was the first animated film to be nominated for the “Best Picture” award at the Oscars! This film is my favorite animated Disney Canon film! This film is my favorite animated Disney film! This film is my favorite Disney film! This film is my favorite animated film! And this film is one of my favorite films in general!

Please welcome “Beauty and the Beast”! Continue reading “Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #30: The Old Beggar Woman/The Beautiful Enchantress”

Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #29: The Hawaiian Operator

We arrive at the 29th film in the Disney Canon, “The Rescuers Down Under”. It’s the first animated sequel to a Disney film (“The Rescuers”), as well as the first sequel in the Canon itself. And in my opinion, it’s better than the original, but not vastly better! So let’s take a look into this film! Continue reading “Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #29: The Hawaiian Operator”
