My Thoughts: THE CROODS (2013)

thecroodsbluray4

I really wasn’t looking forward to any of Dreamworks Animation’s films that were coming out this year. “The Croods” seemed stupid and boring. “Turbo” seemed stupid and boring. And “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” (which was pushed back to a 2014 release) seemed…well….I had no interest in it, since I wasn’t familiar with the original show that it was based on. So all in all, I wasn’t looking forward to watching any of these.

But when you’re “The Animation Commendation”, it’s a sin not to watch these movies and even more a sin not to review them. With that said, I ended up watching “The Croods” when it came out on DVD. What’d I think? It was boring and I didn’t like it.

"Oh, that's it? Right, we can go now!"
“Oh, that’s it? Right, we can go now!”

Ok, I’ll be more detailed about it. Continue reading “My Thoughts: THE CROODS (2013)”

My Thoughts: EPIC (2013)

epic

Well, it’s been a while since I did a “My Thoughts” and just look at the movie that I chose to resume with!

As you may or may not know, “Epic” was probably my LEAST anticipated movie of the year! It was made by Blue Sky Studios, which is an animation company that I’m not fond of; it featured a plethora of celebrity voice actors, which is an animation technique that I’m not fond of; and it just seemed like such a familiar story!

So, I finally saw the film and what did I think? Well, let’s talk about the film first. Continue reading “My Thoughts: EPIC (2013)”

My Thoughts: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1987/1988)

phantom of the opera

Today’s review is the first one that has ever been requested of me.

The name of the requester is Jegsy Scarr, an often viewer of my blog. She is an ardent fan of “The Phantom of the Opera”, so much so as to even compose FanFiction about it. And being a fan of “The Phantom of the Opera”, she suggested that I review either “A Monster in Paris” or an animated version of “The Phantom of the Opera”.

Well, seeing as how I’ve not seen the former yet; the latter is the focus of this post! Continue reading “My Thoughts: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1987/1988)”

My Thoughts: FRANKENWEENIE (2012)

Tim Burton movies are always…well, most of the time…enjoyable!

"They call me Tim Most-Of-The-Time-Enjoyable Burton!"
“They call me Tim Most-Of-The-Time-Enjoyable Burton!”

And this is no exception! It’s a wonderfully made stop-motion animated remake of an earlier short of the same name directed by Tim Burton.

I had completely forgotten that it was a live-action short!
I had completely forgotten that it was a live-action short!

The film received positive reviews, critical praise, and was even nominated for the “Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film”! And now, I have something very controversial to say! Continue reading “My Thoughts: FRANKENWEENIE (2012)”

My Thoughts: THE ROAD TO EL DORADO (2000)

The-Road-to-El-Dorado

Wow, this movie was released 13 years ago and only NOW I’ve seen it for the first time!

Why waste any more time? Let’s see what I have to say about this film! Continue reading “My Thoughts: THE ROAD TO EL DORADO (2000)”

My Thoughts: RISE OF THE GUARDIANS (2012)

As you may know, I’m not a fanatical fan of Dreamworks Animation films; but I still have seen almost all of them and for the most part, enjoy what I see. But I’ve never been ecstatic or pumped up to see any one of their films….that is, until “Rise of the Guardians”

When I saw the trailer for this film and the gorgeous animation/animated effects, I was mesmerized in a way that I’ve never been before in regards to a Dreamworks Animation film! And being a guy who doesn’t really go to the cinemas to see films; I was anxiously awaiting the DVD release of this film so that I could finally see it! And then, when this film didn’t do as well as the company had hoped for; I was shocked and that further fueled my desire to see this film!

Well, I finally watched it! So, what do I think? Well, let’s see! Continue reading “My Thoughts: RISE OF THE GUARDIANS (2012)”

My Thoughts: BRAVE (2012)

brave

Well, I guess it’s time for me to give my thoughts regarding this year’s best animated feature (according to the Oscars), “Brave”!

Pixar’s 13th animated feature seems to travel down the Disney road more than the usual Pixar highway, and that’s not a problem in my opinion! Continue reading “My Thoughts: BRAVE (2012)”

My Thoughts: GULLIVER’S TRAVELS (1939)

When one thinks of early animation, one generally thinks of Walt Disney and his early animated shorts and films. And that isn’t a bad thought to think of actually!

"You're darn right I'm not a bad thought to think of!"
“You’re darn right I’m not a bad thought to think of!”

But when one studies the history of animation, at least in the United States, one finds that Walt Disney wasn’t ever one of the founding fathers of animation nor was he an early pioneer of the field! He was preceded by a plethora of animation pioneers whose names generally go forgotten by the masses. These include Winsor McCay, J. Stuart Blackton, John Bray, Earl Hurd, Paul Terry, and Max Fleischer amongst others! And yet if it wasn’t for these men, animation as an art and film medium would probably have been virtually dead by now!

So I thought I should pay tribute to the early days of animation and take a look at the second full-length American animated film.

“Pinocchio?”

No, it’s not a Disney film, believe it or not! It’s actually a film made by the last name that I mentioned in the paragraph above: Max Fleischer. The film is called “Gulliver’s Travels”, based on the book of the same name, and we’re gonna take a look at it! Continue reading “My Thoughts: GULLIVER’S TRAVELS (1939)”

My Thoughts: ROCK-A-DOODLE (1991)

Oh boy, we’re back to watching Don Bluth movies! That just goes to show you how bored I’ve been recently. For those of you who don’t know, I’m not exactly the biggest fan of Don Bluth, nor would I even call myself a small fan of the man! Nonetheless, being an animated film fanatic, I felt it my duty to watch all his movies! True, they’re not terrible, but I don’t love any particular one of them! I will give him credit though that his animation always is top-notch and there are some enjoyable things in all his movies! An example of a movie portraying top-notch animation and some enjoyable things is this one: “Rock-A-Doodle”! Continue reading “My Thoughts: ROCK-A-DOODLE (1991)”

My Thoughts: MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE’S MOST WANTED (2012)

madagascar 3

So I’ve finally seen this film that (hopefully) ends the “Madagascar” franchise with a trilogy! I was never a fan of the “Madagascar” franchise and never thought much of the other two movies! So the fact that I actually LIKE this movie is somewhat of a shocker! And although I do like it, I also think that it’s not a great movie nor is it perfect. So with that in mind, let’s take a deeper look into this movie and my thoughts regarding it. Continue reading “My Thoughts: MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE’S MOST WANTED (2012)”
