My Thoughts: THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE (2023)

It’s been no secret that my most anticipated animated film of the year was The Super Mario Bros. Movie! While I’m no scholar of the Mario universe, I, like most people, am familiar enough with the characters due to playing multiple Mario-related games. So, I decided to treat myself to watch this one not only in the theaters, but in 3D as well! What did I think? Read on to find out!

(Caution, there will be mild spoilers!)

My Thoughts: TURNING RED (2022)

Sigh…the more I think about this film, the more I hate it! Sorry, you can already tell that this is going to be a negative review.

Pixar’s 25th film, Turning Red, was the third Pixar film in a row to be released on Disney+ instead of theaters. At first, I wasn’t supportive of this decision, but after seeing this film, I think it was the right thing to do. Without further ado, let’s take a look at Turning Red!

Warning: There will be spoilers ahead!

My Thoughts: LUCA (2021)

Luca would be the second Pixar film after Soul that would debut on Disney+ rather than being released theatrically due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Should this have been theatrically released though? Read on for my thoughts on the film!

Mild spoilers ahead!

My Thoughts: THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE ON THE RUN (2020)

While I didn’t grow up with the series due to not having cable, SpongeBob SquarePants is an animated series that I quite enjoy. I love the characters, the humor, and the underwater setting of the Nickelodeon show. A major success, it wouldn’t be long before the franchise spawned theatrical feature films.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie was released in 2004 and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water was released in 2015. I haven’t seen both recently, but I think I enjoyed them fine and especially admired the richer animation shown therein due to a higher budget!

In 2020, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run (another SpongeBob movie, but this time utilizing CG animation) was released. What did I think of this third offering? Read on to find out!

Also, there will be spoilers!

My Thoughts: TOY STORY 4 (2019)

When the news was announced that there would be a Toy Story 4, I, like many people, didn’t know what to think. On one hand, I thought Toy Story 3 wrapped the trilogy up nicely and couldn’t be emotionally topped. But on the other hand, at least it wasn’t a live-action remake of an animated Disney film, am I right?

I went to go see the film in theaters and have recently rewatched it on DVD. So I figured, let me share some of my thoughts with you all. Just be warned that there are spoilers!

My Thoughts: RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET (2018)

In 2018, Disney gave us a sequel that apparently people wanted to see. I was never a fan of the first Wreck-It Ralph film, so I wasn’t enthusiastic about a sequel. Nevertheless, I checked out this sequel directed by Rich Moore and Phil Johnston in theaters! Did I feel that Ralph Breaks the Internet was a better film than its predecessor? Read to to find out!

WARNING: There will be spoilers!!

My Thoughts: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD (2019)

In 2010, DreamWorks Animation released a film that would spawn a beloved franchise! Nine years later, that franchise would come to a close with the third film in the trilogy, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Read on for my review of the film, but be warned that there will be spoilers!

My Thoughts: INCREDIBLES 2 (2018)

The 2004 animated Pixar film, The Incredibles, was a film that people seemed to love immensely! Many clamored for a sequel since day one! I, on the other hand, never loved The Incredibles that much. Yes, I do like it and think it’s a good film, but it was never one of my favorite Pixar films nor one that I was dying to see a sequel to.

Now THIS is a Pixar film that I’d love to see a sequel to!

Nevertheless, Pixar released a sequel, Incredibles 2 (notice the “The” is dropped), in 2018. Directed by Brad Bird, the film received overly positive reviews and made over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office! But, what did I think? Did I like this better than the first film? Read on for my review, but be warned of mild spoilers ahead!

‘My Live Action Disney Project’ Reminder

Hello readers,

This is mainly for my new followers who might not already know: I have a second blog entitled My Live Action Disney Project, wherein I attempt to watch and review every theatrically released live-action Disney movie ever made. If you’re interested, please check it out by clicking here. I’ll greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

My Thoughts: SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE (2017)

In 2011 and 2013, Sony Animation gave us two live-action films based on the Smurfs. Like many films of the same style, all the actors were live-action, but the main characters were animated. And like many of these kinds of films, they weren’t critical successes at all, but made money at the box office!

So when it came time to make a third film based on the Smurfs, they decided to make it a fully animated reboot pretty much ignoring that The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2 ever happened.

They one-upped Cars 3!

The result of that decision is Smurfs: The Lost Village. Read on to know what I thought of it! (Beware, there may be spoilers ahead!)
