Walt Disney’s Daughter, Diane Disney Miller, Dies at 79!

diane disney miller

Sigh…we’ve lost a connection to the man himself, his daughter, to be precise. Diane Disney Miller (1933-2013) has passed away at the age of 79! She was instrumental in bringing to life the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. She leaves behind her husband Ron W. Miller (an ex-NFL star who was actually the CEO of The Walt Disney Company for some time) as well as 7 children, 13 grandchildren, and 1 great-grand child. We shall miss her very much indeed!

My Thoughts: TURBO (2013)

turbo

I don’t even know how to start talking about this film.

That’s a good idea! Ok, so “Turbo” is Dreamworks Animation’s 2nd animated film of 2013 (after “The Croods”). It’s about a snail who races in the Indy 500.

Conclusion to the Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters Project

Many_Disney_characters

Wow, I can’t believe that the project’s finished! It is quite sad, indeed!

I have always been a fan of animated films, Walt Disney’s especially had always wanted to share my love for animation with other people. Then the thought of starting a blog came to my mind. I hemmed and hawed around the idea, because I couldn’t see myself dedicating time to writing a blog or that anybody would actually want to read it.

Finally, I gave in and started my blog, “The Animation Commendation”, on November 4th, 2012. It started out quite weak with me just posting random animation news. Then (I can’t remember if my intention was to boost numbers), I decided that maybe I should start some sort of project, and I knew just what type of project it should be: a project on the animated Disney Canon. oscars

Well, the official list of animated films of the year have been sent to the Academy Awards board in an effort to get the list down to 3 or 5 nominations. So if you were able to cast your vote, which of the following films would you like to see officially nominated for next year’s Academy Award for Best Animated Feature? You can choose either 3 films or 5 films. Here is the list of choices: Continue reading “19 Animated Films Submitted For the Academy Awards Shortlist”

“Free Birds” Proves To Be a Turkey!

free-birds-movie

Reel FX Creative Studios’ first theatrically released animated film, “Free Birds”, didn’t really change much in the pecking order of things. The film opened to 4th place in the box office (US and Canada) with a total weekend gross of a mere $16 million. The film doesn’t seem likely to be a hit battling both a $55 million budget as well as nigh unanimously negative critical reviews. Continue reading ““Free Birds” Proves To Be a Turkey!”

I never thought I’d have the stamina to keep up with a blog, much less keep up with it for a year. Nor did I think much people would read it, but I have over 120 subscribers! Thanks so much to you all for making this a successful blog! Hopefully my other blog, “My Live Action Disney Project” will become just as popular!

In honor of my one-year anniversary, let me know in the comments what your favorite post on my blog has been and what your least favorite has been.

Thanks once again!

My Thoughts: MONSTERS UNIVERSITY (2013)

Pre-Order-Monsters-University

I wasn’t too excited when I heard that a prequel to “Monsters, Inc.” was in the making. Yes, I LOVE “Monsters, Inc.” (it’s my favorite Pixar film), so I was excited to see my favorite characters return in a cinematic production. But at the same time, I didn’t want to be disappointed by them appearing in a less-than-mediocre prequel.

Anyway, I finally watched the movie. What did I think of it? Well, let’s talk about the film first. Continue reading “My Thoughts: MONSTERS UNIVERSITY (2013)”

Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #52: Markowski

markowski wreck it ralph 2

The day is finally here! We’ve come to the last film in the Disney Canon, hence the last entry of my Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters Project.

"WAAAH!!!!"
“WAAAH!!!!”

Sigh…well, can’t cry now; we have to get through this. We are in the year 2012 and in the film, “Wreck-It Ralph”.

The film, about a video game bad guy who wants to be treated better by his good guy game companions, became a HUGE success at the box office and with critics and was even nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. I won’t discuss the plot of the film, since pretty much everybody’s seen it, so let’s go straight to our forgotten/minor character. My Thoughts: THE CROODS (2013)

thecroodsbluray4

I really wasn’t looking forward to any of Dreamworks Animation’s films that were coming out this year. “The Croods” seemed stupid and boring. “Turbo” seemed stupid and boring. And “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” (which was pushed back to a 2014 release) seemed…well….I had no interest in it, since I wasn’t familiar with the original show that it was based on. So all in all, I wasn’t looking forward to watching any of these.

But when you’re “The Animation Commendation”, it’s a sin not to watch these movies and even more a sin not to review them. With that said, I ended up watching “The Croods” when it came out on DVD. What’d I think? It was boring and I didn’t like it.

"Oh, that's it? Right, we can go now!"
“Oh, that’s it? Right, we can go now!”

Ok, I’ll be more detailed about it. Continue reading “My Thoughts: THE CROODS (2013)”
