“Frozen” Heats Up Box Office With $93 Million Weekend Debut

disney frozen

Disney’s much-anticipated and critically acclaimed entry in its animated Canon, “Frozen”, has proven that it DOES have the potential to be a modern classic. Opening in the 2nd place slot of the U.S./Canada box office, “Frozen” amassed a whopper $93 million, breaking the record for biggest Thanksgiving weekend debut!

Have you seen it? If so, what did you think? Do you agree with the statement that it’s this generation’s “Beauty and the Beast”? If you haven’t seen it, do you plan on seeing it and when?

I haven’t seen it yet, but I do really want to see it soon.

My Thoughts: PLANES (2013)

With the financial success of the “Cars” series, it was only a matter of time before Disney tried to cash in on other venues of the same universe. That’s where “Planes” comes in. Continue reading “My Thoughts: PLANES (2013)”

Walt Disney’s Daughter, Diane Disney Miller, Dies at 79!

diane disney miller

Sigh…we’ve lost a connection to the man himself, his daughter, to be precise. Diane Disney Miller (1933-2013) has passed away at the age of 79! She was instrumental in bringing to life the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. She leaves behind her husband Ron W. Miller (an ex-NFL star who was actually the CEO of The Walt Disney Company for some time) as well as 7 children, 13 grandchildren, and 1 great-grand child. We shall miss her very much indeed!

Conclusion to the Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters Project

Many_Disney_characters

Wow, I can’t believe that the project’s finished! It is quite sad, indeed!

I have always been a fan of animated films, Walt Disney’s especially had always wanted to share my love for animation with other people. Then the thought of starting a blog came to my mind. I hemmed and hawed around the idea, because I couldn’t see myself dedicating time to writing a blog or that anybody would actually want to read it.

Finally, I gave in and started my blog, “The Animation Commendation”, on November 4th, 2012. It started out quite weak with me just posting random animation news. Then (I can’t remember if my intention was to boost numbers), I decided that maybe I should start some sort of project, and I knew just what type of project it should be: a project on the animated Disney Canon. Thanks so much to you all for making this a successful blog! Hopefully my other blog, “My Live Action Disney Project” will become just as popular!

In honor of my one-year anniversary, let me know in the comments what your favorite post on my blog has been and what your least favorite has been.

Thanks once again!

My Thoughts: MONSTERS UNIVERSITY (2013)

Pre-Order-Monsters-University

I wasn’t too excited when I heard that a prequel to “Monsters, Inc.” was in the making. Yes, I LOVE “Monsters, Inc.” (it’s my favorite Pixar film), so I was excited to see my favorite characters return in a cinematic production. But at the same time, I didn’t want to be disappointed by them appearing in a less-than-mediocre prequel.

Anyway, I finally watched the movie. What did I think of it? Well, let’s talk about the film first. Continue reading “My Thoughts: MONSTERS UNIVERSITY (2013)”

Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #52: Markowski

markowski wreck it ralph 2

The day is finally here! We’ve come to the last film in the Disney Canon, hence the last entry of my Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters Project.

"WAAAH!!!!"
“WAAAH!!!!”

Sigh…well, can’t cry now; we have to get through this. We are in the year 2012 and in the film, “Wreck-It Ralph”.

The film, about a video game bad guy who wants to be treated better by his good guy game companions, became a HUGE success at the box office and with critics and was even nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. I won’t discuss the plot of the film, since pretty much everybody’s seen it, so let’s go straight to our forgotten/minor character. Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #51: The Backson

winnie the pooh backson

Sigh…

I REALLY REALLY was not looking forward to re-watching “Winnie the Pooh” for two reasons! The first reason was, as I’ve talked about in other posts, I REALLY don’t like this movie! And the second reason was that I had so much trouble picking a forgotten/minor character for “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh”, and now I’d have to go through all that trouble again. I mean, who’s forgotten/minor in the “Winnie the Pooh” franchise?! UGH!!! Moving on… Continue reading “Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #51: The Backson”
