Illumination Entertainment’s Minions opened up to the #1 spot in the weekend box office grossing over $115 million domestically. It’s said to be the second highest opening weekend for an animated film after Shrek the Third.
Have you seen it? Was it good? Do you plan on seeing it if you haven’t already?
I’m super excited!!!! The teaser trailer for the upcoming 2016 animated Disney film, Zootopia, has been released!
What do you all think of it? I’m just so excited to finally see something about this movie. I’m more excited about this than I am about Moana! I’ve always enjoyed anthropomorphic animals and this film is supposed to be a bit of a mystery/whodunnity/crime case sort of a film, which is something I also love! So far, Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin are the only announced voice actors.
We FINALLY have our first trailer (albeit, a teaser) for The Good Dinosaur, the Pixar film that asks, “What would have happened if the asteroid didn’t destroy the dinosaurs?”.
Ok, I am SOOOOO EXCITED about this movie now! I wasn’t all that interested before, but now that I’ve seen a trailer, I can’t wait for November 25th! I love the realistic animation from the asteroids to the dinosaurs (the silhouettes in the beginning)! I love how there seems to be an adventurous/dramatic element to the film rather than just comedic!
What do you all think of the trailer? Excited for the film?
Dreamworks Animation’s latest film, Home, surprised many critics and audiences by opening at the #1 spot in the weekend box office with a $52 million gross! The film, which many (myself included) deemed it sure to fail provided a much-needed boost to the already-faltering Dreamworks Animation.
Did you see the film? How was it? Do you think Dreamworks Animation can pull itself out from under?
In what comes as no surprise to anyone, Disney has officially announced that they’re developing a sequel to their billion-dollar film, Frozen. The original team is set to develop the sequel. For more information, check out the Variety article here.
I personally am not excited about this. I feel Frozen should remain its own movie and not have a sequel, much less a sequel in the official Canon. But, the original movie was a huge success, so there’s no reason why this film will become a flop for Disney.

Well, the 87th Academy Awards were yesterday and you can check the list of winners here. In terms of animation, Disney won the Best Animated Short and Best Animated Film Oscars for Feast and Big Hero 6, respectively.
I congratulate Disney on this, although I was sure that How to Train Your Dragon 2 was going to win. In the end, I only correctly predicted 12 Oscars this year and couldn’t beat my high score last year of 14. Oh well, there’s always next year, God-willing!

Yesterday, the 42nd Annie Awards ceremony took place. How to Train Your Dragon 2 won the award for Best Animated Feature. For a list of all the other winners, check here.

So,that secret project from Lucasfilm that nobody knew about until like a month ago, Strange Magic, to nobody’s surprise, flopped at the weekend box office. The film opened up in 7th place grossing a mere $5.5 million, the WORST opening for an animated film that was shown in over 3000 locations! It’s a good thing Disney decided to release this through their Touchstone Pictures division.
Have you seen it? What did you think? If you haven’t seen it, will you?
