Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #48: Rhino’s Owner

We arrive at Disney’s 48th animated feature, “Bolt”. Released in 2008, the film was a bit of a hit and received much critical praise as well as positive reviews. And according to some people, this film was the start of a new age of Disney animation’s resurgence, a sort of “second Disney Renaissance”, if you will. The animation of this film and the future ones would improve dramatically from what the past films have been as would the quality of the films themselves. And this is a film that I myself quite enjoy! Yet, I have to admit that I consider this movie to be the most FORGETTABLE movie in the Disney Canon!

Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #47: The College Professor

We are at the 47th film in the animated Disney Canon, “Meet the Robinsons”. Released in 2007, the film wasn’t a huge mega-hit, and I guess it wasn’t really an embarrassing flop either. But in terms of Disney Canon quality, many people put this one pretty low on the list! And…yeah, it’s definitely no masterpiece, but I really enjoy this movie! Maybe, it’s the family element, maybe it’s the time travel element, maybe it’s the overall fun, I dunno!

Actor Michael Ansara Dies at 91!

Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) has died at the age of 91! Once married to Barbara Eden of “I Dream of Jeannie” fame, the actor was famously known as Commander Kang on three “Star Trek” series,

Cochise in “Broken Arrow”,

and Abu Sufyan in “The Message”, a film about the story of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad.

In terms of animation, Mr. Ansara has lent his voice many time. His most famous animated role would probably be Mr. Freeze in “Batman: The Animated Series” and its many spinoffs.

This is an actor that many of us will be remembering, and I’m no exception!

Disney Canon-Forgotten/Minor Characters #46: The Alien Cop

So after Disney made the horrifying announcement that “Home on the Range” would be their last traditionally animated feature, we were anxiously waiting to see what their new fully CGI films would be like. And the first fully CGI film to be released was none other than “Chicken Little”.

Released in 2005, the film wasn’t a financial disappointment; but it definitely didn’t do that well with critics. A majority of people hates this movie or at least considers it to be amongst Disney’s weakest. I (as I’ve explained in an earlier post) actually enjoy this film. Sure, it’s stupid and the characters aren’t likable for the most part, but I just can’t help enjoying this movie every time I see it (which has been only twice, so far). So what’s the movie about? “Turbo” Doesn’t Show Speed At All!

Well, Dreamworks Animation’s latest animated film, “Turbo” (a film about a snail who races in the Indianapolis 500), has shown itself to not be a run-away hit at all! Hmm, who’d have known? The film only grossed about $30 million in the domestic weekend box office. I myself have had NO interest in seeing this, although I’m sure I will see it when it comes to DVD. Have you seen it? I apologize for the lateness of this post; it took me a while to obtain a copy of today’s film, “Home on the Range”.

Released in 2004, the 45th film in the Disney Canon frightened many of us because it was meant to be the last traditionally animated film in the Disney Canon!

And thank God that it wasn't! — And thank God that it wasn’t!

First Trailer for “Saving Mr. Banks”

Well, as some of you may know, “Saving Mr. Banks” is not only my #1 awaited Disney film of this year, but it’s also my #1 awaited film of this year, period! Telling the true story of how Walt Disney obtained the rights for “Mary Poppins” from its extremely reluctant and obstinate author, P.L. Travers, when I heard of this film being made, I was ambivalent! I was extremely excited to see this amazing story reach the masses, yet at the same time, I was reluctant to see how Walt Disney and the other key Disney people at the time would be portrayed. “Despicable Me 2” Is Anything But Despicable!

The long-awaited sequel from Illumination Entertainment, “Despicable Me 2”, has shown itself to be an instant hit! With a 5-day weekend gross of $142 million, it wouldn’t surprise me if this film outgrosses “Monsters University”! Have you seen the film? If so, what did you think of it? If not, do you plan to see it?

I’m anxiously awaiting its DVD release, although I’m still upset that Al Pacino isn’t in it anymore 😦 !
