Reel FX Creative Studios’ first theatrically released animated film, “Free Birds”, didn’t really change much in the pecking order of things. The film opened to 4th place in the box office (US and Canada) with a total weekend gross of a mere $16 million. Sony Animation’s “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” has taken the #1 spot in the US/Canada weekend box office with a gross of $35 million! I really loved the first movie and from the trailer, this one seemed so creative, mainly due to the designs, idea, and the plethora of food puns! I haven’t seen it yet, but I definitely plan to!

We’ve FINALLY gotten a full-length theatrical trailer for Disney’s upcoming animated film to be added to their canon, “Frozen”. Yes, we had a teaser trailer before, but it didn’t show anything about the plot. So what do you all think about the trailer? And what do you think about the movie now that you’ve seen the trailer?
Personally, I’m not extremely impressed. It seems that much of the film is focusing on the journey taken by the characters Anna and Kristoff more than the actual plot and goings-on in the film. Then again, that’s just how it SEEMS to me.
I also am not sure what to think of Kristen Bell’s voice acting as Anna. And I’m really disappointed that we couldn’t hear Idina Menzel’s voice nor hear her sing one of the many songs in the trailer.
All in all, I’m skeptical about whether this film will be a hit or not. Nevertheless, I will DEFINITELY try to see it!
Note to self: Use Olaf’s “Worth Melting For” line on future wife; maybe she’ll like it.
Well, Dreamworks Animation’s latest animated film, “Turbo” (a film about a snail who races in the Indianapolis 500), has shown itself to not be a run-away hit at all! Hmm, who’d have known? The film only grossed about $30 million in the domestic weekend box office. I myself have had NO interest in seeing this, although I’m sure I will see it when it comes to DVD. Have you seen it? Well, as some of you may know, “Saving Mr. Banks” is not only my #1 awaited Disney film of this year, but it’s also my #1 awaited film of this year, period! Telling the true story of how Walt Disney obtained the rights for “Mary Poppins” from its extremely reluctant and obstinate author, P.L. Travers, when I heard of this film being made, I was ambivalent! I was extremely excited to see this amazing story reach the masses, yet at the same time, I was reluctant to see how Walt Disney and the other key Disney people at the time would be portrayed. The long-awaited sequel from Illumination Entertainment, “Despicable Me 2”, has shown itself to be an instant hit! With a 5-day weekend gross of $142 million, it wouldn’t surprise me if this film outgrosses “Monsters University”! Have you seen the film? If so, what did you think of it? If not, do you plan to see it?
I’m anxiously awaiting its DVD release, although I’m still upset that Al Pacino isn’t in it anymore 😦 !
Pixar’s 14th animated feature, “Monsters University”, has shown itself to be an A-level movie and has opened at the #1 slot (as all the Pixar films have done) in the United States and Canada over the weekend! The prequel to “Monsters Inc.” earned a monstrous $82 million over the weekend, Pixar’s 2nd biggest opener ever (after “Toy Story 3”)! And to top it all off, the film has been receiving pretty much positive reviews!

Blue Sky Studios’ “Epic” opens up to a less than epic domestic box office opening at #4! Grossing $32 million, the film made about as much as was predicted by most “experts”. In terms of worldwide gross, the film has made about $77 million, so it may have potential to be a hit after all! Have you seen it? If so, did you like it? If not, do you plan on seeing it?
The extremely smart people of IBM have created what the Guinness Book of World Records verifies as the smallest movie ever made! I don’t mean small as in, low-budget, but physically small! The film, “A Boy and his Atom” is made from…ATOMS! This stop-motion animated film was made using carbon atoms and moved around with a scanning tunneling microscope! I love it and think it’s super cool! What do you all think?
