Disney Wins Animation Awards at 87th Academy Awards!

oscars

Well, the 87th Academy Awards were yesterday and you can check the list of winners here. In terms of animation, Disney won the Best Animated Short and Best Animated Film Oscars for Feast and Big Hero 6, respectively.

I congratulate Disney on this, although I was sure that How to Train Your Dragon 2 was going to win. In the end, I only correctly predicted 12 Oscars this year and couldn’t beat my high score last year of 14. Oh well, there’s always next year, God-willing!

Pixar-Forgotten/Minor Characters #8: Francois

francoisratatouille

Pixar’s 8th feature film is one hailed by many as a perfect film, not just one of their favorite animated films, but a film that deserved a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. I personally don’t love this film all that much, but I definitely do like it. Which film is that? Ratatouille, of course!

‘Strange Magic’ Flops, No Magic Needed!

strange-magic-title

So,that secret project from Lucasfilm that nobody knew about until like a month ago, Strange Magic, to nobody’s surprise, flopped at the weekend box office. The film opened up in 7th place grossing a mere $5.5 million, the WORST opening for an animated film that was shown in over 3000 locations! It’s a good thing Disney decided to release this through their Touchstone Pictures division.

Have you seen it? What did you think? If you haven’t seen it, will you?

My Thoughts: HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE (2004)

howlsmovingcastle

I was a guy who up until late 2013/early 2014 never watched anything that had to do with anime. It just never interested me and I couldn’t stand the way anime characters move (I’m weird)! Thankfully, I decided to relent and watch a film from this Studio Ghibli which was apparently the Walt Disney of Japan. And I’m glad I made that decision!

If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have been introduced to the great storytelling, colorful animation, and just inventive premises and characters that Studio Ghibli films have to offer. And the film of today’s review provides all of the above! Let’s talk about Howl’s Moving Castle.

Actor Rod Taylor Dies At 84!

Rod_Taylor_-_1963

I’m back from my vacation to bring you quite saddening news. Australian actor Rod Taylor has died at the age of 84 due to a heart attack. Rod Taylor (1930-2015) was known for appearing in films such as The Birds, The Time Machine, The Train Robbers, and Inglorious Basterds.

But animation and Disney fans will know him best as Pongo in Disney’s One Hundred and One Dalmatians! He shall be missed!
