44th Annie Awards Nominations Announced!

Well, we’re nearing the awards season which means multiple awards ceremony nominations will be announced soon. One set of nominations that have already been announced is the Annies, the “Oscar for animated films”. The teaser trailer for LAIKA’s upcoming 2016 film, Kubo and the Two Strings, has been released. What do you all think? In my opinion, this is the first LAIKA film that I’m actually looking forward to!

Let me just say that I (along with many other people) am SHOCKED that The LEGO Movie wasn’t nominated for Best Animated Feature Film! What the heck?!!!!

I’m also surprised that Glen Keane’s Duet wasn’t nominated for Best Animated Short Film!

The 87th Academy Awards Considers 20 Films For ‘Best Animated Feature’ Nominations!

So, the Academy has announced that 20 films are qualified as contenders to be nominated for the Best Animated Feature Academy Award in the upcoming 87th Academy Awards ceremony. ‘The Boxtrolls’ Opens At #3!

LAIKA’s latest offering (after Caroline and ParaNorman), The Boxtrolls, has opened up in the #3 spot in the weekend box office. The film about a boy who grows up with a bunch of trolls named the Boxtrolls, opened up with a $17 million gross in the US/Canada box office. Against a $60 million budget, the film may prove to be financially successful in the weeks to come. And with the reviews slightly leaning towards the positive side, that may happen sooner than later.
